Almost every person has been affected by the new policies and requirements due to COVID-19. Most of you will find yourself at home and potentially even less motivated. This is not the time to slow down or even give up on your pelvic health. We’ve listed at least 7 important reasons why you should continue to keep your pelvic health up during this difficult time.

1. Strength doesn’t happen overnight.

It takes 6-8 weeks to see actual changes within muscle tissue when doing a strength program. You should see a change due to neurological changes between (brain – muscle) within the first two weeks. Don’t stop, be consistent.

2. Times can seem a little more strenuous right now.

That extra stress can increase the resting tone of the pelvic floor and contribute to pelvic organ prolapse symptoms as well as incontinence and pain. A good pelvic floor program that combines stretching, strengthening and breathing can help!

3. A change in routine can change how well your pelvic floor functions.

Noticed a little more leaking since working from home? Noticing a little more pressure/heaviness? Maybe you have a constant feeling of tension in your pelvis? Changing your workstation, activity level during the day and stress can all impact pelvic floor function. Limit this by continuing to work on your pelvic health.

4. Build a Strong Foundation.

Now is a great opportunity to build a strong foundation so you’re ready for summer sports and fun. Who knows how long we’re going to be off. Now is a great time to work on some pelvic floor exercises so you’re ready to go when you can. It doesn’t have to be a lot or time-consuming. A few key exercises a few times a week can make a big difference!

5. Alleviate Pain

Learning how to create strength in your pelvic floor and core during everyday activities helps alleviate back pain, control continence and helps to alleviate pelvic organ prolapse symptoms. You may not feel like you can fit another thing in. However, learning how to contract your pelvic floor and core can help. Doing an everyday activity like lifting, standing, and rolling count as exercise and help restore proper function.

6. Faster Scheduling

It usually takes a month or two to book an appointment. Right now, with virtual appointments, you can get in quick and we can get you started on your program right away!

7. Personal Experience

A bonus with our video appointments, which we can’t do in the clinic is I can see how you move and sit IN YOUR OWN SPACE and make any adjustments. I will be able to see how you lift the car seat, carry groceries, how you sit at your desk and the space you feed your baby in.

We hope these points help motivate to stay on top of your pelvic health. For any questions don’t hesitate to reach out to us here at KW Pelvic Health.
